10月11日托福口语真题解析

Task 1: Talk about an piece of art work that you like the most, it could be a photograph, painting or song.

Sample

My favorite song is Shape of My Heart by Sting. I know it’ s a pretty old song, but I can listen to it forever without getting tired of it. First, it’ s easy on the ear. It’ s neither too loud nor too quiet. The melody is peaceful and soothing. Plus, the song has a great pace to it. It’ s very relaxing yet it doesn’ t get too lazy or slow. Second, it’ s the theme song of Leon: The Professional, which happens to be one of my favorite movie too. Every time I listen to this song, it reminds me of the story of Leon and Mathilda. Both the song and movie are sad and beautiful at the same time.

Task 2: When having some extra money, some people prefer to save it, others prefer to spend it. Which one do you prefer?

Sample

I prefer to save the extra money I have for the following reasons. First, impulsive buy is wasteful and unwise. Just because we have some extra money doesn’ t mean it’ s alright to throw it away. It gives me a sense of

safety knowing I have some money sitting in my saving account. Second, we never know when we’ re going to need the money again. Life is full of surprises. Last month, my computer suddenly stopped working. It was gonna cost about two hundred dollars to get it fixed. I had no choice but to borrow that money from my friend. If I had more money saved up somewhere, I could’ ye avoided it.

Task 3

Plan: The school plans to hold an annual meeting for community about the development of faculties.

The woman disagrees.

First, she thinks there’ s no need to hear it, and the school should put the information online so more people could see it.

Second, the meeting will be held in the hall, but a lot of people won’ t be able to attend it.

Task 4

Defensive pessimism: Individuals use defensive pessimism as a strategy to prepare for anxiety provoking events or performances. When implementing defensive pessimism, individuals set low expectations for their performance, regardless of how well they have done in the past. Defensive pessimists then think through specific negative events and setbacks that could adversely influence their goal pursuits. By envisioning possible negative outcomes, defensive pessimists can take action to avoid or prepare for them. Using this strategy, defensive pessimists can advantageously harness anxiety that might otherwise harm their performance. (Wiki)

Example: The professor and his friend flied to New York for a conference, but they lost their suitcases. His friend was a defensive pessimist and prepared for the worst, so he put extra clothes and paper in his carry—on bag. But the professor didn’ t do the same so he didn’ t have spare clothes or paper.

Task 5

Problem: The girl wants to take a writing class and is required to submit a short story so that the professor can determine if she is qualified to take the class. But the girl doesn’ t have one.

Solution 1: She can write one now, but she also has to study for her exam and probably doesn’ t have enough time.

Solution 2: She wants to hand in a poem she has written, but she’ s afraid the professor may not accept it.

Task 6

The professor talks about two adaptations that insects have in order to survive in the water.

The first is to have wide and strong legs. Example:

giant water bugs have strong legs which can make fast strokes.

The second is to have thin and long legs to be able to diverse the weight and float on the water.
