雅思口语Part3:Shopping

Q1.Do people in our country enjoy going to open-air markets that sell things like food or clothes or old objects? Which type of the market is more popular? Why?
A: Well, it really depends on what the market sells. Going to the open farm markets for meat, vegetables, fruit and spices is actually a tradition for most Chinese people;but people seldom go to such places to buy clothes, though there may be some. It is partly because the items are, under most circumstances, out-of-date.

Q2.Do you think markets are more suitable places for selling certain types of things? Which ones? Why do you think this is?
A2. I do think so. For example the fish market. This kind of market is often found in seaside towns which are usually tourist destinations. So both local people and tourists would like to visit the place for a wide range of fresh seafood.

Q3.Do you think young people feel the same about shopping at markets as older people?
A3.Not really. Young people are more likely to regard shopping at open or street markets as a way of recreation. They may just go there occasionally. When they get there, they may just get about, looking for something quirky, just for fun. Most mid-aged people and the elderly, instead, treat these markets as simply places for buying necessities, from foods to goods. They go there more often and may have been regular customers to certain stalls.
