1. Talk about one of the economic changes, political changes or social changes in your country over the past two decades. Explain how this change influenced people’s life in your country. Include details and examples in your explanation.

Over the past 20 years, the income of people in my country has increased dramatically. First, it improves people’s eating habit. Take my grandparents for example. When they now do groceries, they would buy organic vegetables instead of regular ones. However, they weren’t able to afford the healthy food in the past.

Second, with more income, people are able to travel around and widen their perspective. For instance, last year, I visited 10 countries in Europe with my parents. During that trip, I learned something about Renaissance and the art history in Europe, which made me more open-minded.

2. Which of the following volunteer activities would you prefer to participate in at a local kindergarten—helping kids with their homework, giving kids a talk about yourself, or teaching sports? Explain why. Please include reasons and examples in your explanation.

I prefer to teach kids sports because doing sport is something that I am really good at. You know, when I was a kid, my dad started to teach me play basketball since he is a basketball pro. So far, I am very proficient in play basketball. If I help kids with something that I am not really good at, it would be embarrassing and I would feel that I am not being responsible.

Besides, teaching sports has long-term benefits. For example, after teaching the kids how to play basketball, they could also do the sports after class regularly, which will be beneficial to their health and will allow them to relax and escape from reality for a while.

3. Some foreigners are visiting your country but they don’t know much about the customs and climate in your country. What travel tips would you give them and why? Please include details and examples in your explanation.

I’d like to give them two tips. First, it is necessary to book plane tickets and train tickets online in advance. For example, my friend Jack from the United State came to China when it was our National Holiday. You know, all the tickets to other towns or cities were sold out several days before the holiday. So he didn’t have much fun.

Second, it is necessary for them the check the temperatures before going to any cities because the climate in China varies greatly. Last summer, my friend Judy from Australia caught a bad cold when she travelled to the north after visiting Hangzhou in the South. You see, the weather in the north is still quite cold in the summer sometimes. So foreigners should get prepared for that.
