雅思阅读中的动词分析

1. As strikers downed tools and commuters battled to work, some 340,000 French teenagers wrestling with the question “Did we live in order to be happy?”
　　① Down tools 罢工，亦可作put down one’s tools;
　　② Battle 本意是战役，这里指奋力开路去工作，表示因为罢工导致交通瘫痪，commuters(通勤者即上下班的人)出行困难;
　　③ Wrestle本意是摔跤，这里wrestle with the question意为“遇到难题而左思右想。”
　　2. In fine tradition, he has booted the problem to his new prime minister, Manuel Valls, who has sounded tough, declaring that there is “no question” of shelving the reform.
　　④ Boot本意为靴子，做动词表示踢，这里boot the problem to 意为“把问题踢给…”
　　⑤ Shelve看到这个词大家会想到shelf(书架，搁板)，所以它的动词shelve意为“把…搁在架子上，搁置”那么这里的shelving the reform就是“搁置改革”暂时将其放在一边不理。
　　3. But, billed as a bold reformer, neither can he be seen to give in to his first protest on the streets.
　　⑥ Bill一词大家都知道可以当做人名(电影杀死比尔 kill Bill)，亦可当做名词表示账单，法案，做动词表示宣布宣传，这里billed as a bold reformer意为“他被宣传为(认为)是一名大胆的改革者”

　　⑦ Inch我们都知道有英寸的意思，而这里作动词则意为缓慢的向前移动(advance slowly, as if by inches)。

　　⑧ Cloud在多数考生眼里这个词就是乌云的意思，变成动词，意为被云遮蔽。
　　6. Fleeing on a French warship crossing the Indian Ocean, Le Gentil saw a wonderful transit- but the ship’s pitching and rolling ruled out any attempt at making accurate observations. 剑9 T2P2
　　⑨ Rule我们都知道有规则的意思，而这里rule out表示“阻止，排除”“船的倾斜摇动使得精确观测成为不可能完成的事”

　　⑩ Dog大家一眼看到都会觉得这不是狗狗么，怎么会做动词?!其实dog这个词是可以做动词的，意为“跟踪，尾随”与stalk这个词有点类似(美剧跟踪者就是Stalker)
