阅读:有一种marketing strategy 叫skimming。商家先定很高的价格再减价。
听力:教授举例子是以前的DVD player,刚出来的时候很贵要1000 刀,但还是喜欢新科技的人不在乎, 觉得值得买就买了;之后卖不动就减价,到了一半的价钱,其他消费者很高兴觉得赚到了,也都去买,结果商家收获了很高的profit。

托福口语预测Task 4高分答案:

The term ―skimming‖ refers to a pricing strategy in which the marketer sets a higher price for a product at first and then lowers the price over time.
The professor in the lecture uses an example of a DVD player manufacturer to explain how price skimming can help a company attract and profit from different types of customers.
In the example, a DVD player was launched and the manufacturer set the initial price at $1,000. This price setting attracted customers who were fond of new technologies and willing to pay a high price for any new high-tech products.
After the first group of customers,demand was satisfied,the company started to lower the price of the DVD player by half. This new pricing attracted another group of customers who were more price-sensitive and thought that the 50% discount was a great bargain.
As a result, the company profited again from these sales.
