1. Parents should not express their disagreement to the teacher if parents find the teaching method is not right?
  Disagree (should express)
1. Students: The major aim for students to attend school is to receive high-quality education in order to find well-paid jobs after graduation. It is teachers’ responsibility to impart knowledge to students and prepare them for future career. –express disagreement – adjust teaching methods to suit students’ levels and needs – enhance students’ academic performance. VS be misled by teachers
2. Teachers: reflect on the teaching process – communicate with colleagues, observe other teachers’ classes – adjust teaching methods – make progress – enhance teaching quality – raise the school’s reputation VS will not be aware of their own problems
3. Parents: pay tuition fees – have the right to state their opinion – communication among parents, students and teachers – better learning outcomes
2. Some students prefer to have their final grades determined by numerous small assignments, whereas others prefer to have their final grades determined by only a few large assignments. Which do you prefer and why?
  Small assignments
1. fair and reliable – have several chances to demonstrate learning outcomes VS large assignment: limited opportunities – easily affected by factors such as physical conditions, luck and cheat。
2. Put less stress on students. –have several chances, If they do not perform well in one assignment, they still have another chance. VS large assignments: nervous and anxious – work under excessive pressure and feel overwhelmed – have a negative impact on physical and mental health
3. Allow students to form a good learning habit. –review after each class in order to prepare for the assignment – Learning is a gradual process. VS large assignments: memorize knowledge before the final exam, go to the library two days before submitting the final paper
3. We should state our honest opinions even though other people may disagree with them.
  Agree
1. It is our right to state our true opinions and we should not always please others. – It is evitable to live with people whose ideas are different to ours. –speech freedom VS feel depressed, lack confidence
2. Express our ideas – prove – discuss and share – draw on collective wisdom and integrate various ideas – make wiser decisions VS one-sided
3. Admittedly, we should pay attention to the way of stating our views.–be polite, respect others
4. Society benefits more from works of great artists than from political leaders.
Disagree (political leaders)
1. Introduce laws and punish illegal behaviors by fine – ensure social stability and maintain social order – protect citizens’ rights and enhance their quality of life – a wide range of areas, such as economy, education, environment, employment, medical care, and social stability
2. The development of the art industry relies on the policies made by political leaders. –provides financial support – purchase materials and equipment
3. Admittedly, the works of great artists also have a positive impact on the society. –release stress and enrich citizens’ spiritual life – However, the influence of artists is much less than that of political leaders and their policies.
5. If you need to discuss upsetting or controversial problems with others, you will use e-mail or text messaging, OR use the telephone or voice-messaging.
  E-mail or text messaging
1. Take time to choose words and can check and revise the content – avoid impulsion, conflict and misunderstanding – state ideas more clearly VS telephone or voice-messaging: send information instantly without further thinking – do not express opinions or feelings in an appropriate way – regret
2. Avoid embarrassment – provide an effective means for people to express true feelings and ideas less directly – will not receive others’ responses immediately – will not be bothered

Cleaner energy (e.g. solar energy, wind energy, hydro energy, nuclear)
1. Infinite and renewable, can be gained from the nature – ensure energy security – sustainable development of the country VS traditional energy (e.g. coal and oil): finite and non-renewable – energy crisis
2. Protect the environment, environmentally friendly VS traditional energy: burn coal and oil – produce/ release greenhouse gases – cause the greenhouse effect and global warming – pose great threat to the environment
3. Admittedly, traditional energy也有好处:economical, do not need advanced technology to develop the energy
7. The main role of a university professor is to educate students rather than to do research.
  Disagree (do research)
1. Money: 1) receive funds from the government – much higher than the regular
income as a teacher

2. Knowledge: do research– explore the unknown world – stimulate innovation –
expand knowledge VS educating students: be isolated in the classroom – impart repetitive knowledge – fail to keep pace with times
3. Country: do research – technology – innovation – enhance comprehensive national strength (e.g USA: the Nobel Prize) – stand out from international competition
8. Workers would be much happier if they are doing different types of tasks during their workday than doing the same task.
  Agree (different tasks)

2. Switch between different tasks – will not easily feel bored or overwhelmed
