导语:

今天解析的口语话题是Describe a time when the weather changed your plan,(描述一次你需要因为天气原因改变你的计划的经历),对于这个话题烤鸭们依然可以和之前的口语话题进行合并。

话题合并与分析方法
Describe a time when the weather changed your plan 描述一次你需要因为天气原因改变你的计划的经历
you should say
when it happened
what you planed to do
what did you do after you changed your plan
and explain how you felt about it when the weather stopped your plan

I recall one time when I was particularly frustrated to have to change my plan due to bad weather. The plan was for me to pick up my friend coming from the states at Shanghai Pudong Airport. He was carrying a lot of luggage with him, so it would have been quite painful for him to take the subway (if you have taken the subway from Pudong to Hongqiao, then you know what I’m talking about) and train back to Nanjing, so we had planned that I would drive to Shanghai and pick him up. Plus the cost for driving there and back would have been pretty much the same as if he took the train, and it would have been much more comfortable.
So the day came, and I was already on the road. I didn’t check the weather beforehand, cuz it wasn’t during the rain season, and it hadn’t rained in a week, so I wasn’t even expecting it to rain. But it did. Halfway to Shanghai, after I pulled over in one of the service areas to take a break, the rain started. And it wasn’t like a shower – that would have been fine, it was pouring rain, like there was no tomorrow. No cars in the area dared to leave, and more and more cars were coming in from the highway. Soon the highway police started broadcasting an emergency warning on the radio to advise people not to return to road. There was no way for anybody to drive in that condition, so everyone just waited.
It was particularly frustrating for me cuz I thought my friend had arrived by then and been waiting for me. He didn’t know any Chinese other than ‘Ni Hao’ and ‘Xie Xie’, and he didn’t have a working SIM card, so it would have been difficult for him to contact me. And I couldn’t do anything about it because of this rain.
To kill some time, I started checking his flight status cuz I was wondering if this heavy rain was also affecting the airport. And it was! It turned out that no plane was being allowed to land because of this rain and extremely low visibility. So that was a silver lining.
Fortunately, the rain stopped after about an hour. And I eventually got to the airport about an hour later than planned, and picked him up. Everything turned out fine.
I guess the takeaway from this experience is to prepare for the worst and hope for the best, cuz when this kind of thing happens, there’s nothing you can do.
