托福考情真题解析2016年托福Writing

Task 1

Reading

Primary doctors减少有三个原因

1)学费贵,学生难以付清贷款,且当primary doctor工资低

2)当primary doctor的工作量大,压力大

3)培训的机会不均等

Listening

Sample answer

The reading and listening discuss about the reduction of primary care doctors. The passage mentions three reasons to explain the reduction of the primary care doctors. Whereas, the professor totally refutes the three points presented in the passage and puts forward corresponding solutions to these problems.

First, the professor rebuts the reading’s idea that students majoring in primary care can hardly pay off the loans and are often low paid when they become primary care doctors. The professor claims that a national program can help to compensate their loan. According to the policy, after graduation, students can apply forgoing to the remote area to practice. And such experiences can be used to cover loans. What’s more, by doing so, some students are lucky to gain scholarship.

Furthermore, the professor contradicts reading’s statement that primary care doctors tend to suffer from high stress and heavy workload. The professor mentions that the government will cultivate advanced degree nurses who are able to share some of the workload of the primary care doctors, such as the jobs related to prescription medications and caring.

Finally, the passage states that opportunities to get training are not even. However, the professor explains that uneven assigning the resources results in uneven distribution of opportunities to get trained. And the government has realized this problem and will take actions to reassign the resources every three years among different hospitals.

Task 2

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: The reading that a student does on his or her own is as important as or more important than the reading that a student does because it is assigned by teachers.

Sample answer

As is universally acknowledged, Reading plays a key role in broadening one’s horizons and cultivating one’s characteristics. People, especially students, are always expected to read as much as they can. Some students tend to do the reading when it is given as a task by teachers. However, from my perspective, the reading that a student does on his or her own is definitely more important than that was assigned.

To begin with, students are more likely to cultivate and maintain their interests in reading when they choose to read by themselves. Opposed to the situation that students may feel sick about the assignment they have no interest in, when they do the reading on their own, they tend to insist for a longer time with curiosity and enthusiasm. This can find wide application among college students in particular. In order to hone one’s talents and crafts with specific purpose, college students will find the more practical books to read to strengthen their competence for their future competing with other rivals in the job market. Take Steve Jobs as an example. After attending the college just for a few months, he couldn’t figure out how the college life would help him in the future except for imposing his working family enormous financial pressure. Then, he decided to drop out so he could stop taking the required classes and reading the assigned reading materials that did not interest him and began dropping in on the ones that looked interesting. Finally, the last several months for his college life turned out to be priceless later on since he took a calligraphy class and read the relative books, the knowledge of which had been applied to produce the first computer with beautiful typography. Evidently, part of Steve Job’s accomplishments can prove how essential for students to read by following their own curiosity and intuition. Therefore, reading and learning by oneself is of great significance in finding and keeping one’s interest.

Furthermore, students will have better efficiency if they read the books they like. To be more specific, compared with the assigned papers or articles, students’ incentive can be more stimulated by reading what they like. Also, they will be more absorbed in reading and the results will certainly be more satisfactory. For instance, the prevailing notion of children’s education is that they should develop their own interests by reading what can intrigue their inquisitiveness or stimulate their imagination. The reason is that when students are forced to do a certain reading task, they may not concentrate and just want to finish it as it is a burden. Besides, too much focus on cultivating students’ academic abilities and the ignorance of developing their overall qualities will lead to the development of elites with less morality. Obviously, the benefits of reading books by students themselves and the detriment of just reading as assigned by teachers can tell us how important to give students’ rights to choose what they read.

In conclusion, students should enjoy the freedom to decide what they read. In this way, not only can they find their interest but also they will achieve a better result in reading.
