Word can mean okay or just to communicate that you heard them

Word 可以表示好的或表示你听到了。

E.g.: “I’ll be there in 5 minutes.”

我五分钟后到。

“Word.”

知道了。

E.g.: “I’m going to the store, I’ll be back later.”

我要去趟商店,很快回来。

“Word.”

好的。

Note: Here it’s usually said quickly and indifferently.

注意:这种用法通常说的很快和漫不经心。

Word can mean cool, like:

Word 可以表示很酷,例如:

E.g.: “I got an A on my test.”

我考试得了A。

“Word.”

不错哦!

Note: Here it’s used with a little more excitement, and it’s a little more drawn out..

注意:此处的word要说的带有一些激动,并稍微拉长一下语调。

Word can be used in an annoyed or indifferent way, like yeah, whatever:

Word 可以用于表示被惹恼了或漫不经心,犹如“嗯,随便啦”的用法。

E.g. : “Hey man, you forgot to clean up.”

嗨,老兄,你忘了打扫了。

“Word.”

嗯…

E.g.: “I’m going to hang out with John (someone you don’t like).”

我准备跟约翰一起出去逛逛。(你不喜欢的那个人)

“Word.”

随便你。

Note: Here it’s used often with the roll of the eyes, and in annoyed sound in their voice. It’s also a little drawn out..

注意:此处的word在说的时候经常会有翻白眼的动作,而且声音听起来有些不耐烦的感觉。同时也会有些拉长。

Word can be used to show disbelief, like “really?”

Word 可以表示不相信,类似于“真的吗?”

E.g.: “Yo, I got a new car.”

嘿,我买了辆新车。

“Word?!”

真的吗?

Word up is also sometimes used, but it has a slightly different meaning. It can mean I agree with what you’re saying, usually with some enthusiasm.

Word up 有时也会用到,但它的意思有些不同。它可以表示“我同意你说的,通常带有一些激动兴奋的热情。”

E.g.: “Shinyway is amazing!”

新通太棒了!

“Word up!”

我同意你说的!

To put words in your mouth means to falsely or inaccurately report what you said.

To put words in your mouth表示错误地或不精准地报道你所说的话。

E.g.: “Hey man, that’s not what I said. You’re putting words in my mouth.“

嘿,朋友,那不是我说的。你这是强加于人。

To take the words out of my mouth means I was thinking the exact same thing.

To take the words out of my mouth 表示这正是我想说的。

E.g.: “I was just about to say that! You took the words right out of my mouth.”

我刚想说这个呢!你把我说的都说了。

Word on the street is a rumor or piece of information that is currently being talked about.

Word on the street 表示流言蜚语或部分正在被讨论的信息。

E.g.: “Word on the street is Chad has a fan club.”

听说查得有个粉丝俱乐部。

Word to the wise is a hint or brief explanation given.

Word to the wise表示明白人不用细说。

E.g.: “Word to the wise, don’t go through the favelas in a BMW.”

明白人不用细说哈,不要坐着宝马车从贫民窟穿过。

To give your word means to tell the truth:

To give your word 表示告诉你事实:

E.g.: “Will you be here when I get back? Give me your word.”

Don’t take my word for it 表示相信你所听到的。

E.g.: “Papaya is delicious, but don’t just take my word for it, try it yourself.

Keep your word表示信守诺言

E.g.: John gave his word to not eat meat for 30 days.

约翰发誓30天不吃肉。

E.g.: Remember John, you said you would go on a vegetarian diet for 30 days, keep your word.

记住约翰,你说过你要吃30天的素,要信守诺言哦。

To have a word is to have a quick conversation, to speak briefly.

To have a word 表示简单的聊几句,快速的对话。

E.g.: “I have some news, can I have a word with you real quick?”

我有一些新消息,能跟你简单说几句吗?

In other words, to express something in a different way. In other words is often abbreviated as i.e.

In other words表示换句话说,通常缩写为ie.

E.g.: “I got drunk at the bar last night, so in other words I’m getting better at holding my liquor.”

昨晚我在酒吧喝多了,换句话说我手握着酒杯感觉很好。

Just say the word means I am at your service, just tell me when you want to be served.

Just say the word 表示我随时为您服务,只要您需要,随时为您效劳。

E.g.: “Would you like some water?”“Not now, maybe later.”“Just say the word.”

您想要点水喝吗?现在不需要,待会吧。好的,需要时跟我说。
