Q1:Do you often read newspapers?

Actually, I don’t often read newspapers today. But I do read news on my cell phone, on a daily basis. Because it’s cheap and convenient. I tend to read some finance and entertainment news over my breakfast.

Q2: Do you like reading newspapers or magazines?

Well, it must be magazines. I like pictures and I am a visual reader. Magazines are much more vivid with a variety of colorful pictures, while newspapers are dry and dull, I mean, full of texts.

Q3:How important is it to you to get the news every day?

I think following up the updated news is as important as having daily meals. People eat to live, but they live for what they believe. Besides, it is quite normal to receive fresh news every day. I mean, keep my mind sharp.

Last summer vacation, I volunteered to be an English tutor helping my nephew with his English. He was so poor at English that he didn’t even attend the final test. His mom was angry and desperate. She was complaining to my parents when she came to our home, I told her that I was willing to give it a go and see if I could change my nephew’s attitude towards English. Hopefully, by the end of the school vacation he had been able to catch up with most of his classmates. So she agreed and sent my nephew to my home. It sounds like I was homeschooling him, wasn’t it? Haha, at the beginning, I didn’t blame him for being a disruptive student as I got to know what weakness he had. It turned out that he hated to learn textbook English for it never helped him to understand Marvel comics. Then I got an idea, which was to use a few of his favorite superhero cartoons to teach him. It went slow at first because he had to use a dictionary constantly, but he was committed to it. A month later, he was able to use simple sentences and speak with good pronunciation. I was proud of him as he proved that I could be a good teacher. Besides I never know that English cartoons totally beat textbooks. It seemed like a miracle!

1. Should children be taught to help others?

Definitely, being ready to helpothers is a good trait of people and children can learn many things when they help others. They’ll be less selfish and willing to share with others. After all, I don’t think there is anyone in the world wants to see the day when every child is self-interested.

2. How can we encourage children to help others?

As far as I am concerned, there are mainly two ways to motivate children to offer help to others. The top priority is to set a great example for children. They will like to help others if every adult around them does so. Another thing is to praise children when they do well. Only in this way are they able to realize that being nice to other people is brilliant.

3. Do you think people are less willing to help others these days, compared to the past?

Well, I would say yes. There are many reasons contributing to this phenomenon. Firstly, with the population mobility, the relationship between people is not as solid as it was in the past. On top of that, the demand of the sense of security impels people to avoid danger and risk. We often hear some astonishing stories: those who helped others are cheated, and some of them even are required to pay for the expensive medical fee. These stories are happening every day around us, so an increasing number of people are becoming afraid of helping strangers.
