SAT阅读之词汇题

SAT的阅读是很多中国学生较弱的一科，不仅是因为单词量或者阅读体裁比如小说类文章的问题，而且还有逻辑和做题思维的问题。我们今天要讲的是阅读当中相对基础和简单的一类题目，但从这类题目当中我们能看到同学们对于阅读的理解深度以及偏差的问题。

词汇题的题目通常的提问形式是“XX”(词或短语)serve to/effect... 这个题目并不只是考察对词汇的认知，而是从深层次上考察词汇在文章当中的所代表的意义。我们来看看下面这道题：

Winterbourne reflected for an instant as lucidly as possible - “we” could only mean Miss Daisy Miller and himself. This program seemed almost too agreeable for credence; he felt as if he ought to kiss the young lady’s hand. Possibly he would have done so and quite spoiled the project, but at this moment another person, presumably Eugenio, appeared. A tall, handsome man, with superb whiskers, wearing a velvet morning coat and a brilliant watch chain, approached Miss Miller, looking sharply at her companion. “Oh, Eugenio!” said Miss Miller with the friendliest accent.

In the last paragraph, the words “reflected”, “lucidly” and “felt” primarily serve to

A. Highlight the narrator’s neutral and objective point of view

B. Foreshadow the future actions of a character

C. Introduce a new character into the passage

D. Shift the focus to a character’s subjective thoughts

这段文章当中给出的三个词是两个动词和一个副词，那我们首先要知道的是动词的发出者和承受者是谁，被副词修饰的内容是什么，这样才能清楚这些词的讨论对象。动词的发出者都是Winterbourne这个人，没有直接承受者，lucidly是修饰reflected这个动词的。通过这个讨论对象，我们就能够排除掉A和C了，因为A中的讨论对象是narrator，而C的讨论对象是new character。

然后我们再来看B当中的核心词是future actions, 而D当中的核心词是thoughts, 很明显这两个动词体现的都不是动作，而是一种心理状态，所以B的actions是不对的，答案就选择D。

这就是我们做这种词汇题的方法，简单来说就是先搞清楚所给单词的描述对象，然后再搞清楚所给单词的denotation和connotation分别是什么，以此来验证选项中的核心内容是否在正确。这样才是在理解的基础上去做题，而不只是知道单词意思而已。
