——Ivy

学生心得:
An Analysis on IELTS Learning & IELTS.
The current test I’ve received brought me infinite glory and honor with its outcome. Put the compliments and congratulations aside, there is something worth me sorting out indeed. So, I’ll share my experience and some thoughts on English learning.
To start with, I’d prefer to have a thorough analysis on each section in IELTS. As to my most proud section, listening, the key to success in this part, in my point of view, the pre-understanding of the questions so that candidates can have a quick grasp of the listening materials and have a primary expectation of the appearances of answers. This expectation is very essential, to achieve this, candidates should read as fast as possible. By the way, do not waste time on checking the answer in merely 30 sec after every section’s end because it is impossible for you to remember so much info that you can even correct an answer, even I cannot do that.
In reading section, the passages can be enormous at approximately 1300+ each passage. This requires having a super ability to summarize the passage rapidly, otherwise you cannot finish. My weakest defect is the detail-related question like T/F/NG type. I cannot find those minor differences between the statements and the original sentences. This requires a more careful but quick skimming reading which I couldn’t.
I don’t have many things to share in writing section. Suppose candidates confront weird task such as maps or process diagrams, they shouldn’t act panic or they might get worse grade and affect task 2’s performance. I was a little lost my bravery and clue at first but soon I got my emotions controlled. Thanks to the high difficulty the writing section, the criteria possibly lowered. What a blessing in disguise!
Speaking part is always my strong strength. I have many ways to practice my oral speaking and many ways to assimilate local and original expressions (mainly from those English songs and TV plays). Accidently, my cue card was about gift I’ve given to others. That is quite easy task.
Then I’d be glad to share my experience on learning English. Unlike other examinees, I don’t concentrate totally on exam itself; instead, I always prefer to enhance my listening by listening to English songs and understand every word he or she sang, or by understanding TV plays’ subtitles without looking at them. I reinforce my reading skills through reading favorable English-written books. I strengthen my speaking skills anytime in my daily life by translating and explaining words to my friends no matter my friends are interested or not. As to writing part, I will try to chat with some friends who are also good at English (maybe not as good as me). Briefly, if you want to be an expert in a language, the best way to achieve that is to use it everywhere in order to create your own linguistic atmosphere. Besides, vocabulary is a must, without vocabulary, everything based on it will not work, even if you have correct grammar. Talented people like me have undergone a hard time of memorizing those words. Nevertheless, the paybacks are very worthwhile!
So, that is all I want say, my approaches of learning may sound quite bizarre and unique to you, however, I believe it can have a long-term impact on me.
