题目:Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Governments should spend more money in support of arts than in support of athletics such as state-sponsored Olympic teams.重复2008.5.10ML

范文:

With the development of society, people's living standard has boosted rapidly, and they have access to appreciating arts, such as painting and music and getting to athletics, like Olympic Games. Accordingly, the debate as to whether governments should spend more money sponsoring art than athletics mounts up. While some people may argue that supporting art can improve people's aesthetic judgement, from my perspective, funding athletics is of more benefits because it exerts favorable influence on people's health, enhances images of nations and meet more people's need.

Initially, focusing more on athletics produces far-reaching effects on people's physical and psychological health by encouraging citizens doing exercises. Physically speaking, people can do sports more frequently because gymnastics with different sport facilities are available. For example, young people can running, mountain climbing, perform yoga while senior citizens can jogging and play Taichi. Therefore, there will be a growing number of people who can build up their strength, become healthier, and strengthen their immune systems. Psychologically speaking, people can be set free from trouble they have encountered in that they can enjoy themselves when they do many perspiring sports, thus relieving their pressure. Compared to this, arts merely provide people with appreciation- be it a beautiful painting or harmonious melody, failing to benefit people's health physically.

In addition, funding athletics more improves images of nations. Consider an Olympic team as an example, winning a sport competition in an international event on its own nation no doubly earns respect from citizens and foreigners. Admittedly, magnificent art masterpieces also enhance images. However, images of nations are boosted by athletics more than by arts. According to survey conducted globally by Chinese Psychology Authority, after an Olympic Game was held in Beijing in 2008, 86.3% people think they were left more impression by China's ranking first in the list of the amount of golden medals in the world, while 32.5% people consider the splendid Olympic ceremony which showed Chinese traditional culture was more impressive. To put it in simple words, sponsoring athletics like Olympic teams improves nations' images in a deeper degree.

Ultimately, supporting athletics satisfies more people's occupational demand. People who are interested in doing sports can tap their potential by joining in state-sponsored sport teams. Chances that they become professional players are high should they practice persistently and terribly. In other words, people can land their jobs when it is accessible to take part in teams and then make their livings. Although supporting arts may also offer people opportunities to have jobs, arts need people's innovation, which most plain people lack in. Statistics in a study of World Social Organization show that 61.7% people are not creative to think a vase in different angles, which means it is less likely for people to become skillful artists and fail to find jobs. When it comes to need of career, supporting athletics is superior to arts.

To sum up, governments should subsidize more on support of athletics than arts because the advantages of athletics surmount those of arts in terms of health, images and professional need.
