随着中美经济的日渐成熟，越来越多的家长会选择将孩子送到美国去接受美国正规的中学教育。当然也是为了申请美国大学的方便。美国高中分为公立和私立高中两种。公立高中只允许国际生在本校读一年。中国赴美留学生一般都是申请美国私立高中。私立高中US News的排名是很多希望去留学的学生和家长都关注的排名。US News两年会评选一次全美国最优秀的高中, 标准是学生选修Advanced Placement (AP)和 International Baccalaureate (IB)的平均数量。然而他们只评选公开招生的中学, 所以颇有名气的几所美国高中,如马萨诸 塞州的Phillips Academy高中，该校的毕业生SAT平均分在2100分左右，同时该校还是美国政坛有名的布什父子的母校。康涅狄格州的 The Taft School都不在其列。很多私立学校也没被列入名单, 因为这些学校不肯透露考试分数。最后无论具体排名在什么位置, 这100所美国高中也都属于全美国最顶尖的4%的中学。
