八千里云月，中国的好山好水太多，风景名胜数不胜数。前不久，《国家地理》也趁着暑期旅游旺季刊登过一篇文章，以21张图介绍了中国最具特色的21处世界遗产级景观——

1.The Great Wall：长城
Stretching more than 5,000 miles, the Great Wall of China was built by first emperor, Qin, who began construction in the 3rd century B.C.
公元前：B.C.; 公元后：A.D.

2. Wulingyuan：武陵源

3. China Danxia：中国丹霞
Spectacular red cliffs and towering natural pillars in this region were formed by layers of different colored sandstone and minerals, pressed together over millions of years.
“丹霞”的英文就是“Danxia”，丹霞地貌也在中国分布最广。如果你去过甘肃的张掖，一定会被那绚丽斑斓的地表给震撼。
4. The Tulou Houses of Fujian：福建土楼
Southeastern China hosts more than 40 tulous—circular housing complexes, also called "earthen houses"—that sit among rice, tea, and tobacco fields.
“host”约等于“have”，用来表示拥有XX东西（host莫名有种我是主人、这是我的地盘之感 ）。
“circular housing complex”：圆形的房屋建筑。这是形容土楼最简单也最直白的方法了~~如果需要再进一步介绍土楼的话，还可以加上“dwellings of the Hakka people（客家人的民居）”等词汇。

5. Honghe Hani Rice Terraces：红河哈尼梯田
Along the Ailao Mountains on the Hong River, visitors discover elaborate, reflective rice terraces, designed by the Hani people with support from buffalos, ducks, and eel.
“elaborate”：精致的、精心制作的；“reflective”：反光的

6. Ancient Building Complex in the Wudang Mountains：武当山古建筑群
The temples, palaces, and monasteries on the scenic slopes of the Wudang Mountains hold 1,000 years of Chinese art and architecture.
“monasteries”：寺院。和temple的“寺庙”略有不同，monastery可以泛指僧院、修道院等等，而非仅是供奉佛像的场所。
“hold 1,000 years of Chinese art and architecture” 这后半句非常棒！一个简单的“hold”用得极为生动，有种将中国千百年来的艺术与建筑精华尽数“揽于怀中”的感觉~~这个句式推荐小伙伴们get起来！

7. Mount Qingcheng and the Dujiangyan Irrigation System：青城山与都江堰
The birthplace of Taoism, Mount Qingcheng hosts a series of temples and an irrigation system—an epic engineering feat originally constructed around 256 BC that's still activetoday.
“irrigation”：灌溉；“epic”：史诗般的（貌似“史诗级XX”已成为了一个网红词 ）
介绍都江堰的这半句也非常简明生动，一下子就点出了它悠久的历史与超然的地位。这的确是人类水利工程的一大奇迹。
8. Mount Wutai：五台山
Home to 41 monasteries, this sacred Buddhist mountainboasts the East Main Hall of Foguang Temple, the highest surviving timber building of the Tang dynasty with incredible life-size clay sculptures.
“home to…”和上面的“host”有异曲同工之妙，都表示此地有XX东西。
“life-size"：真人大小的
“boast”一词用在这也挺好玩：这词本意为“吹嘘”，有那么点贬义在里面。但同样也能作为“令人值得骄傲的事”，表示“以……为自豪”。在原文当中，用一个boasts是不是比用简单粗暴的has要生动许多？

9. Hongcun Village：宏村
The ancient village of Hongcun brings visitors back in time, with well-preserved buildings dating back hundreds of years.
“bring…back in time”是表示“带领……穿越时光（回到过去）”的比较常见的用法。
这里对宏村的描述非常简单，适合向完全不了解中国文化的吃瓜老外介绍。如果是对中国文化、建筑甚至是影视作品感兴趣的歪果仁，咱们不妨多提提“徽派建筑”“卧虎藏龙”等关键词。

13. Potala Palace：布达拉宫
Perched on Red Mountain in Lhasa Valley, the Potala Palace was the winter retreat of the Dalai Lama since the 7th century, symbolizes Tibetan Buddhism, and plays a central role in the traditional administration of Tibet.
“perched”这个词挺生动的，表示“栖息于……”，特指置于高处，比如山顶、树上之类的。

15. Lijiang：丽江
The old town of Lijiang in Yunnan Province sits high in the mountains with a complex ancient water system feedingcanals and channels still in use today.
这里的“sit”和前面的“perch”都有“坐落”的意思，简单又生动。
而后半句说到水利系统时，一个“feed”也用得非常形象。虽然“feed canal (引水渠)”和“feed channel (导料槽)”各是专有名词，但在feed在这里用作动词，语带双关，感觉更妙了~

20. Ping Yao：平遥古城
The well-preserved city of Ping Yao lets visitors explore atraditional Han Chinese city, with nearly 4,000 shops and traditional houses on meandering lanes.
这种“with XXX” + “let visitors explore a ...”的句型也很好学，表示“以其（所拥有的XXX），让游客们感受到/体验到/探索到XXX”。
