英国有很多学校开设历史及历史学相关专业，其中除了有单对于特定国家历史开设的专门研究以外，还分为古代史和近代史、经济史、战争史等方向。其中古代史由于中世纪及以前，欧洲各国家的历史多由神职人员编写，其社会形态也与宗教产生诸多关系，因此古代史的课程中大量涉及欧洲各国的宗教文化研究，不适合中国大陆出身的学生作申请。
